what's your current favorite??
“We don’t need to have just one favorite. We keep adding favorites. Our favorite book is always the book that speaks most directly to us at a particular stage in our lives. And our lives change. We have other favorites that give us what we most need at that particular time. But we never lose the old favorites. They’re always with us. We just sort of accumulate them.”

yeah, what he said.
"Even when reading is impossible, the presence of books acquired produces such an ecstasy that the buying of more books than one can read is nothing less than the soul reaching towards infinity……we cherish books even if unread, their mere presence exudes comfort, their ready access reassurance.”
- A. E. Newton (via bookoasis)
...And that's why I love to have books!
p.s. isn't this adorable?

*Every* night Emily thanks God for Halloween in her prayers. Still.
Happy Halloween! Emily loved looking at the Halloween decorations in the stores all through September and October, and then the week of Halloween began. All month she had been changing her mind about what costume to wear, until she finally said "I just want to be me. Just Emily." She ended up choosing her favorite costume from her dress-up, Cinderella, for preschool and the church carnival, then mid-week switched to 'Shiny Taranadon' (pteradactyl from the PBS cartoon Dinosaur Train) for Music Makers and the church trunk-or-treat. We decided to visit great-grandma for Halloween night since it was on the Sabbath this year, and Emily was a super helper to pass out the candy, a responsibility she took very seriously :)
Church Halloween Carnival

Pumpkin Carving! She thought the insides looked like cheese (??)
Church Trunk-or-Treat
the perfect noun/adjective/verb substitute
So I borrowed The Smurfs on DVD from the library so Emily understands what the little blue creatures on our refrigerator magnets are... and realized just how much they use 'smurf' as a word substitute- good, bad, and in between! My favorites are:
"What the smurf is going on in here?!"
"Quit smurfing around!"
"Smurftastic!"
"What the smurf is going on in here?!"
"Quit smurfing around!"
"Smurftastic!"
